Scott Smith, aka Scotty Scott, is a prolific prison artist and a frequent contributor to All of Us or None’s national newspaper and outlets like Prison Journalism Project. Three of his pieces—a self-portrait, a black-and-white drawing of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and a piece dedicated to Black Lives Matter—are featured in Reimagining the Revolution. His pieces range from raw caricatures reminiscent of Ralph Steadman to delicate, high-impact portraits of civil rights leaders like John Lewis. Created within the confines of a California state prison, Scotty’s work is a powerful act of resistance—his way of being seen in a system designed to erase him. For over a decade, he has used art to speak truth, challenge injustice, and connect with the outside world. With each piece, he reminds us: art is freedom, and to witness his work is to witness the man behind it.
At Scotty’s Vision, 100% of proceeds go directly to Scotty, to fund his commissary account and purchase art supplies. Your support makes it possible for Scotty to continue creating bold, expressive work from behind bars—often with nothing more than a ballpoint pen and recycled paper. By purchasing from this shop, you’re not just buying a piece of art—you’re helping sustain the creative spirit of someone incarcerated, and ensuring access to the tools that make his vision possible.
